First Aid Kit
Everyone should have at least one first aid kit ready to go in a moments notice.
You should have a basic one in each vehicle. If you have a camper you should have one there also. Various conditions and situations require different ingredients for any kit. If you have prepared a bug out bag you should have a pretty complete first aid kit in it. If you are going back packing for a week you’ll need one completed for the weather you may encounter along with any specific risks you face, such as snake bites, frost bite, sunburn, etc.
I will list the items in order of importance according to me. You must make your choices regarding these items according to your needs and your ability to carry the weight and bulk of each article.
The container for the kit should be sturdy and waterproof. If some cases simply packing them in a zipper lock plastic bag will be sufficient, while others may require more rigid protection.
Prescription Medications. If possible have extras. Although these can’t be packed in a kit on a "just-in-case" basis, due to limited quantities and expiration dates, have them in a constant location in a ready to grab container- while still in their original bottles with the patient’s name and instructions on them- let’s not take a chance on getting them mixed up.
- Band-Aids: variety box
- Roll of one inch stretch gauze
- Telfa Pads
- One inch tape
- Sterile Gauzes
- Antiseptic ointment
- Antibiotic ointment
- Rubbing alcohol
- Hand sanitizer
- Aspirin
- Aloe Vera
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- Lighter or Matches
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Antihistamine
- Insect repellent
- Sunscreen
- Lip balm
If you or someone close to you suffers for allergies you’ll need the appropriate treatment for those. If skin outbreaks occur bring the proper preventive aids for those, keeping the skin in tact is very important to help ward off infections. Ladies, you’ll need your feminine hygiene supplies.
