Personal Survival Kit
A personal survival kit could be a component when considering women's self defense.
The kit contains items needed in a survival situation. There are all types of situations that could necessitate these kits. Some of these kits will be small and some rather large- such as a bug-out-bag. Natural disasters such as tornadoes (yes, I’m from the Midwest), hurricanes, earthquakes, floods will need close to the same items, but some differences. A personal survival kit may be a wilderness kit, car kit, military kit or first aid kit. Some items will be similar in all kits, while others are very specific. If you deal with medical issues, you should always have extra medicine on hand. I realize that insurance companies don’t necessarily work that way, but if you have to make an emergency trip after your pharmacy closes, you may end up somewhere unfamiliar without enough meds. What could possibly come up so quickly that you don’t have much time to pack? It probably wouldn’t be a good thing. A relative or close friend in an accident out of town or something equally tragic. Having a bag ready to go, or at the very least a detailed list of easy to grab items. Many of us gals have our own personal survival kits we carry with us every day (purse). Sometimes I get tired of lugging around the weight so I empty out my purse to leave the stuff I don’t need. Then I put it all back in except for a few used Kleenexes I put in there during church services. I need it all! A waterproof or at least water-resistant backpack could be ready to go at a moments notice filled with granola bars, hard candy, extra medicines, and extra set of clothes, a couple bottles of water, a flashlight and batteries. Cash could be useful here if you had enough to leave in here. Important phone numbers, would be handy, as would a notebook and pen and pencil. If there was any possibility of international travel you could put your passports in here.
Here’s a list of items that should be included: - First aid kit
- Water purification tablets
- Matches or lighter
- Candle(s)
- Mirror for signaling
- Compass
- Solar blanket
- Razor blades
- Knife
- Needle and thread
- flashlight
- Whistle
Of course the items in your personal survival kit will vary with your particular location/environment, possible circumstance and any health considerations you have.
