Techniques of Basic Self Defense

These techniques of basic self defense will help you defend yourself against your attacker if running is no longer an option. Time to get mad- not scared (at least don’t show it). Look him in the eye and yell at him.

This alone may make him change his mind about you. Attackers are generally looking for easy targets, not someone who will fight and cause him trouble. Don’t cry, ladies, you’re mad, not scared!

I can’t tell you exactly what to do now, each situation is different: each attacker, each location, time of day, etc. You may decide to strike first. If you know that situation is going south, first strike will have its advantage: surprise. If he didn’t see it coming, he won’t block it.

Pick your target well. If you can poke or gouge the eyes you could blind him long enough to escape. Perhaps an elbow in the throat- very effective, but you have to be pretty darn close to pull it off.

Let’s say that physical contact has been made. He has grabbed you, somehow. Forget showing bravery. It’s time to get mad. Keep in mind that the charge of rape carries a 3-5 year sentence and rape with a weapon carries 15-20 years. So he probably won’t have a weapon and he’s hoping you don’t fight him. He's hoping you don't know techniques of basic self defense.

You will now be fighting for your life and must commit yourself 110%. You must use your brain and your body. You have many body parts that can be used as weapons and he has many body parts that can be targets or pressure points.

If he has you pinned down, you may wish to seem to relax and become complacent. When he releases one hand- as he will to further assault one- you will then explode into action, taking him off guard.

And here’s an interesting tid-bit: if you scratch or gouge his face with your fingernails, you not only mark him for later identification, but you also have his DNA under your nails.

These techniques of basic self defense can be very helpful when coupled with these techniques.
