Wilderness Survival Kits

The ingredients of wilderness survival kits may vary depending on your environment. Keep it ready as part of your self defense plans.

The carrying pack should be layered down. Pack the largest things in a duffel bag, like warmth and shelter items. In a smaller container like a backpack pack items such as canned food, water, flashlight, etc. These things can be carried some distance if needed. An even smaller bag, perhaps a shoulder bag could carry the essentials, like matches, first aid kit, water purification tablets and so on.

Starting with the shelter/warmth category here is a basic list of items for your wilderness survival kits:

• Mylar coated blanket- for warmth and signaling
• Tube or pup tent
• Tarp
• Large plastic trash bags for ponchos or shelter
• Mosquito net
• Lighter and waterproof matches
• Mirror for signaling
• Compass

Water and food:

• Three gallons of water (three day supply)
• Metal container to boil water
• Water purification tablets
• Water filter
• Collapsible water bags or containers
• Canned food with can opener
• Energy Bars
• Candy and gum
• Fishing gear
• Snare wire

First Aid:

• Any prescription medications
• First aid kit, if you have one
• Bandages, gauze, tape
• Tweezers
• Razors
• Alcohol pads
• Oxytetracycline tablets
• Aspirin
• Insect repellant
• Hand sanitizer
• Salt
• Soap
• Toilet paper
• Lip balm
• Rubbing alcohol
• Benedryl
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Polarized sunglasses

Tools:

• Fixed blade knife
• Multitool
• Folding Saw
• Needle and thread
• HD Aluminum foil
• Cord or rope
• Hatchet
• Firearm and ammunition if you know how to use it

Your wilderness survival kits should also contain some money and ID. It seems like a lot of stuff. You’ll need to pack it well. You’ll be glad you have it all if you need it!
