Womens Awareness

Womens awareness consists of being cognizant of your surroundings constantly. It sounds like quite a task, but with vigilant practice this becomes an excellent self defense habit for women.

Being highly aware can serve two safety purposes. Besides the obvious look out for danger, the bonus is looking like someone who notices what is going on around her.

Predators are usually looking for weak or distracted victims.
Weak victims often look at the ground while walking, refusing to make eye contact. Not only does their demeanor broadcast their attitude, it also makes it easier to get close to them without being noticed.

Keep your head up, back straight and eyes scanning. Make eye contact with those you meet. Display a
confident attitude.

Don’t talk on your cell phone or text message while walking. Have keys in hand, don’t be rifling through you purse as you go.

Always pay attention to your inner signals. If you have a bad "gut feeling" about something there’s probably a reason. Don’t ignore it. Consider it your own personal radar and trust it. For more information please see Intuition

While your constantly on the alert, at the same time you can’t live in constant fear. Experiencing continuous fear actually drowns out womens awareness; it becomes difficult to distinguish the real signal when you need to. It is best to remain calm and observant, not expecting anything specific and open to every signal of unexpected danger.

When saying “no” to unwanted attention, whether it’s be a stranger or a date, do it without smiling, apologizing or giving an excuse. Square your shoulders and make eye contact.

Remember that you have the right to say “no”. You don’t owe any explanation, as a matter of fact; trying to give one may only encourage an argument.

When at public establishments it’s best to have a friend whom you trust with you. Always keep your drink in sight- even better- in your hand. Due to the possibility of date rape drugs it has become necessary to guard your drinks and never accept open drinks from anyone other than the server. Always be aware of your level of intoxication as well as that of those around you. Know when to cut yourself off.

Practicing womens awareness is essential to help assure your safety in today’s world.
